 Lion k!lls OAU zoo keeper while feeding animals A staff member of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife Zoological Park, Olabode Olawuyi, has been k!lled by a nine-year-old lion in the zoo. For decades, the relationship between oil companies and their host communities in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta region has been fraught with tensions. Communities bearing the environmental and socio-economic brunt of oil exploration were deprived of their fair share of oil wealth. These oil-producing regions suffer from environmental degradation, poverty, and underdevelopment due to decades of oil operations by multinational companies. Efforts by the government and oil companies to develop these communities through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives were inadequate and unsustainable. The lack of clear regulations outlining oil companies' responsibilities towards host communities resulted in a sense of distrust and community unrest.  *Ekpo Commends Final Investment Decision On Iseni Gas Project By NNPC/SPDC JV Partners*  Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, has said the Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Iseni Project by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and its joint venture partners has opened up a new vista of opportunities for local content compliant contracts for Nigerian firms. Shell had sealed the FID with the NNPCL, TotalEnergies and Nigerian Agip Oil Company, as joint venture partners, in a deal that will see the building of a dedicated upstream facility to supply 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to Dangote Fertiliser and Petrochemical Plant in Lekki, Lagos State for ten (10) years.
